The Proposal

In mid-2021, Council developed a Masterplan for Brickpit Park to guide future development of the park.

Following this, Council developed a concept design for the playground and consulted with the community on this proposal in late-2021.

Council received numerous comments from the community as part of the consultation, with the main comments received suggesting:

  • Inclusion of water play
  • More shade / shelter
  • Toilets and wash basin
  • Inclusive equipment
  • Adventurous equipment
  • Pathway improvements

Council amended the design and incorporated much of the community feedback into the proposal. Unfortunately due to significant cost escalations in the building industry, there was insufficient funding to achieve this design proposal.

Council has now revised the concept plan to reduce cost to match the available funding. The revised design still incorporates the community requests from the previous consultation, but is smaller in size, reducing the extent of earthworks and retaining walls required to enable cost savings to be made.

The new design continues to include all the elements for a district level playspace as outlined in Council adopted play plan. It still includes the following:

  • Retain the existing flying fox, swings and climbing net in their current locations
  • slides on the embankment
  • Inclusive play equipment
  • Ninja warrior course
  • Junior water play
  • Shade sails over slides
  • Picnic shelters
  • Fully fenced playground
  • Accessible grade pathways
  • Tree planting
