What's Happening?
Hornsby Height's beloved Ulolo Community Park is ready for a revamp. The proposed changes are next level – literally. The park will go from ‘Pocket Level Playground’ up to a ‘Local Level Playground’ classification, unlocking more possibilities!
The space was once a firefighting training area and remains a stop on Hornsby Heights RFS’s much loved Santa run. The new playground's firefighting theme will be a loving wink to its RFS and community connection.
The upgrade aims to:
- 🎠 Enhance play opportunities
- ♿ Improve accessibility
- 🌲 Utilise natural shade provided by existing trees
- 🌿 Maintain open grassed areas for relaxation and informal recreation
Proposed improvements include:
- 🛝 Replacement of the existing playground
Upgraded from a Pocket Level to a Local Level Playground* in accordance with Council’s Play Plan - 🚒 Play elements inspired by Rural Fire Brigade history
Celebrating the site’s connection to the Hornsby Heights community - 🚶♀️ New pedestrian pathway
Linking Galston Road to Ulolo Avenue - 🥾 Proposed future pathway to bushland
(Currently unfunded) - 🚧 New fencing
Palisade fence along Galston Road and new post-and-rail fence along Ulolo Avenue - 🎡 Diverse play opportunities
Swinging, sliding, climbing, rocking, imaginative and nature play - 🧼 Safe undersurfacing
Rubber softfall in active zones and garden mulch in nature play areas - 🌞 Shade enhancements
Existing tree shade plus new shade trees and garden bed plantings - 🪑 Upgraded park amenities
New furniture, signage, and a bin
The playground is to be upgraded in accordance with Council's Hornsby Shire Councils Play Plan For further information on what we can include in a 'local scale playground' please see page 92-93
When?
Work is expected to commence in early to mid-2026 and take approximately 10 weeks to complete (subject to approvals and contractor availability).
What’s Included in this Stage
This stage of work focuses on the playground upgrade and immediate surrounding park improvements. A broader concept plan has also been developed to help guide potential future works, but only the playground and associated paths and landscaping are currently funded for construction.
