What's happening
Council has received requests from residents seeking the installation of a Pedestrian Crossing in Romsey Street, Waitara to assist pedestrians crossing the street and to reduce the speed of traffic. Council has investigated these requests and developed a proposal to install a Pedestrian Crossing and Refuge Island at a mid-block location in Romsey Street. Key features of the proposal are:
- Providing a linkage for residential buildings on western side of Romsey Street (No 23-27) to/from Orara Street Park (33-37 Orara Street, Waitara)
- Assisting pedestrians to cross Romsey Street safely, especially for elderly people, mobility impaired, or school children
- Reducing traffic speed by narrowing the roadway with kerb blisters and traffic islandsReducing vehicle trips and encouraging walking by providing a pedestrian-friendly environment
- Installation of ‘No Stopping’ restrictions near the crossing to ensure sufficient sight lines for pedestrians and drivers. Approximately 8 parking spaces will be removed
- Installation of traffic signs and road delineation.
A plan of the proposal is attached.
Council invites your comments on the proposal by close of business Friday 30 June 2023. The results of the consultation will be referred to the Hornsby Local Traffic Committee for consideration and recommendation to Council.
