About the Committee

Hornsby Shire Council is reestablishing the Hornsby Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultative Committee (HATSICC) to strengthen its relationship with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Committee will provide cultural guidance and strategic advice to ensure Council’s actions are respectful, inclusive, and supportive of First Nations communities — especially those with connection to the lands of the Dharug and GuriNgai peoples.

Be one of twelve voluntary members of the Council’s Hornsby Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Consultative Committee. The committee meets five times a year and runs approximately two hours.

  • Who Can Apply?

    Council welcomes expressions of interest from:

    • Traditional Custodians of the Hornsby Shire area. (Dharug & GuriNgai peoples).
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with strong local knowledge or Connection to Country- Community members involved in culture, education, youth, advocacy, land care, or other leadership roles.
  • Committee Role

    Members will

    • Advise Council on Aboriginal culture, heritage, and engagement.
    • Help shape local policies, plans, and events
    • Promote inclusion and reconciliation in the Shire
    • Support local recognition activities (e.g. NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week).
