What's Happening?

To facilitate the transition to electric vehicles in the Hornsby Shire Local Government Area, Charge Post is proposing to convert:

  • 21 car parking spaces for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging only with 11 dual port EV chargers (22kw AC charging)

In consultation with Council, 11 kerbside locations in Hornsby and Waitara have been identified as a potential location for charging points.

These locations meet Council’s site selection criteria in the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Public Land Policy and will support residents who don’t have access to off-street parking for home charging.

Car Parking Bays

To facilitate this upgrade, it is necessary for twenty-one (21) existing car parking bays to be converted to:

  • No Parking: Electric Vehicle Excepted While Charging (RMS Sign no. R5-40-1n) or
  • 2P 8.30am-6pm Mon-Fri 8.30am-12.30pm Sat: Electric Vehicles While Charging Only (RMS Sign no. R5-1-13n) and No Parking All Other Times: Electric Vehicle Excepted While Charging (RMS Sign no. R5-40-1n).

Charge Post Charger

The Charge Post charger is:

  • Powered by 100% renewable energy
  • Funded by support from the NSW Government
  • Installed and maintained at zero cost to Hornsby Council or ratepayers
  • EV Charging station picture

    Background

Hornsby Shire residents rely heavily on vehicle travel. According to 2019/20 data, over 78% of our community travel by car either as a driver or passenger. The installation of EV charging facilities will provide the required infrastructure to transition to electric vehicles and help reduce our community carbon emissions.

    Why?

In Australia, approximately 15% of inner-city households do not have access to off-street parking. Lack of publicly available chargers and charge point accessibility is one of the main barriers to EV adoption.

Charge Post is specifically engineered to be installed onto power poles at kerbside locations.

The EV Charging Stations support the transition to electric vehicles which is an important action towards the Council's goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

    Who can use them?

These kerbside chargers are 22kW AC chargers which will be suitable for servicing apartment dwellers, hospital employees and commuters who generally park for longer periods on these suburban streets.

    Where?

The 22kW (three-phase) dual port electric vehicle chargers mounted on power poles will be available for public use at the kerbs at the following locations in Hornsby and Waitara.
