What's Happening?

From split to spectacular

Big changes are coming to Cherrybrook Community & Cultural Centre. We’re removing the driveway that divides the playgrounds to create one large, connected play space that’s safer, shadier, and more accessible for everyone.

Initial plans include:

  • Replacement of existing playgrounds into one larger space by removing the central driveway.
  • 🧒 Improved safety for young children through consolidated play areas, fencing, and restricted vehicle access.
  • 🚫🚗 Access driveway to be available to authorised and emergency vehicles only and made pedestrian friendly.
  • 🚶‍♀️ New pedestrian pathways connecting key facilities around the site.
  • Four accessible parking spaces with a clearly defined and controlled pathway to the Community Centre, improving safety and ease of access.
  • 🧱 Fencing around the play space, including a covered outdoor seating/dining area.
  • 🎠 New playground equipment including opportunities for active, social, imaginative and nature play for toddler to primary school age groups.
  • 👀 Clear visibility of the site from nearby areas to enhance safety
  • 🌤️ Shade sail installation and additional shade tree planting.
  • 🔥 Removal of existing gas bottle storage and relocation of bin storage to the current gas storage area.

Why?

The current play area includes two small playgrounds separated by a central driveway, limiting safe and easy movement despite high foot traffic. Both spaces have been earmarked for renewal under Council’s Capital Works Program.

This project will upgrade the play areas with new equipment and facilities, while also improving access and connectivity across the Community Centre precinct.

When?

Construction is scheduled in the first half of 2026.

How will your feedback be used?

Community comments will be carefully reviewed and considered by Council to help shape the final playground design. Feedback will guide decisions on play equipment, themes, and supporting features, ensuring the upgrade reflects community needs and values
