Background
The Hornsby Public Domain Guidelines (PDG) were prepared with a focus on five areas identified for growth and enhancement over the coming years: Asquith, Waitara, Thornleigh, West Pennant Hills and Beecroft.
The Guidelines aim to ensure that future development and public spaces deliver good design quality and consistent solutions that respond to the growing needs of the community, while also respecting the bushland character that makes Hornsby what it is.
The PDG were adopted in July 2021 with the exception of the entry for Beecroft, as concerns were raised during consultation for the PDG about proposals for public space being delivered on private land, including the possibility of access to private land becoming restricted due to suggested developments.
In response to these concerns, amendments have been made to the Guidelines which are now on exhibition. We welcome your feedback on the proposed changes.

Key changes to the Public Domain Guidelines - Beecroft
What are the proposed amendments?
The key proposed amendments to the current draft Beecroft PDG include:
- maintaining Hannah Street as a two-way vehicular main street, rather than a partial share zone with one-way traffic flow
- consideration of traffic calming options and an additional safe crossing on Hannah Street
- provision of a public access provided through approved development at No.5 Wongala Crescent to a future plaza or arcade with potential development above with frontage to Hannah Street, instead of a large civic plaza.
